Dr Abigail Abbott

Dr Abigail Abbott, Osteopath

B.Sc.(Clin.Sc.),B,Sc,(Ost,Sc,),AOA

Abigail began her Osteopathic training at the British School of Osteopathy in London, before immigrating to Australia in 1993 and completing her studies at RMIT in Melbourne. Abigail moved to Adelaide and started work at Kent Town Health Care under the mentorship of Dr Amanda Heyes, which is where she began her post graduate training in Osteopathy in the Cranial Field. Abigail previously ran Mile End Osteopathic Clinic for 10 years, and returned to work at Southside following maternity leave.

Abigail has postgraduate training in Osteopathy in the Cranial field, Obstetrics/ Gynecology and Pediatrics. Her particular interest lies in enhancement of fertility, pregnancy, preparation for birth, post natal recovery (particularly Cesarean awareness), treatment of babies and children and woman's health, as well as chronic pain, migraine, post trauma and post surgical recovery.

Abigail's general approach looks thoroughly at the past history of illness and trauma to build a picture of how the body is working well, and how function can be improved with treatment. The treatment approach is mainly Cranio-Sacral, but she also uses fascial release, soft tissue release, visceral technique and trigger point therapy. Abigail works through the 'layers' of past trauma and dysfunction to achieve the goal of balanced and free body and mind. The patient is an active participant in the treatment, and Abigail likes to explain what she finds and how the patient can aid their own recovery process through lifestyle changes. Abigail is a member of the Australian Osteopathic Association.
